Ponder this thought from the poet Rumi: A new moon teaches gradualness and
deliberation and how one gives birth to oneself slowly. Patience with small details
makes perfect a large work, like the universe. What nine months of attention does for an
embryo forty early mornings will do for your gradually growing wholeness.
The Season of Lent, like the phases of our Moon, seems to have been designed with
gradualness in mind. Year after year, month after month and lent after lent, we are
given forty days to deepen our embrace of the long slow process of growth. We
treasure this sacred time and the special community joining us in our practice as we
journey toward a kinder, more connected world.
